NJ Transit Bus Fire

January 3, 2017 at 7:59 p.m., the Pequannock Twp. Police Department received a call advising us there was a N.J. Transit bus travelling south on Route 23 that was on fire. Officers were able to signal the driver to stop in the right lane of the highway just prior to the Alexander Avenue intersection. The officers quickly checked the bus for passengers and found none were present. Pequannock Twp. Fire Companies #1 and #2 and the Pequannock Twp. First Aid Squad also assisted at the scene. The N.J. Transit bus involved was a 2002 Motor Coach Industries bus and was removed from the scene by N.J. Transit. The Pequannock Twp. Police Traffic Bureau did not issue any summonses but has submitted the bus driver’s information to the N.J. Motor Vehicle Commission for a medical review of his commercial license.
