December 2023 Flooding
December 18 & 19 of 2023, members of Engine Company #1 worked alongside Pequannock's Engine Company 2, Police Department, First Aid Squad, and Office of Emergency Management in response to township-wide flooding. Members took part in multiple evacuation notifications, civilian assistance calls, and high water rescues. According to the hydrograph mapping provided by the U.S. Geological Survey via the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Pompton River in Pompton Plains crested at 21.21 ft at around 10pm on 12/18/23, marking this as the river's 8th highest crest to date. NOAA labels 19 ft as "Major Flooding," making this incident the worst flooding the town has received since its record peak on 8/29/2011 when the Pompton River crested at 25.24 ft.
