Quick knockdown saves home in Pompton Plains

A rapid response and some fine fire fighting tactics, kept this home from being destroyed on this frigid Tuesday morning January 30. The fire department was dispatched at approximately 2:35 am for the report of a house fire at 88 West Parkway in the Pompton Plains area of the township. One of the first to arrive on the scene was Company #2 Chief Snook, confirming a working fire with visible fire running the exterior delta wall.

First due units arrived within minutes and began stretching lines to the delta side and to the interior #1 and #2 floors as the ladder company positioned ground ladders to the roof in two areas and additional units set up a water supply. Water began flowing to the exterior wall as interior crews opened walls and doused the spreading flames for a total knockdown in literally minutes, as the crisp morning air tickled the 17 degree mark. The fire was placed under control in less than an hour.

Preliminary reports seem to place the fire’s origin on the exterior and possibly electrical in nature, but a full investigation is in progress to determine actual cause and origin. There were no reported injuries.
